چکیده

Use of A1c POCT offers additional utility; immediate A1c values help verify the accuracy of the self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) results that patients present in the clinic. This is particularly important when patients do not bring their log books or meters into the clinic. The availability of immediate A1c testing allows clinicians to expedite results to patients and readily change treatments as needed to improve glycemic control. It is important to note that validation studies have shown A1c POCT to be equivalent to laboratory reference measurements.1, 2 A1c POCT Systems

Quality error rates in point-of-care testing.

BACKGROUND Although a theoretical consideration suggests that point-of-care testing (POCT) might be uniquely vulnerable to error, little information is available on the quality error rate associated with POCT. Such information would help inform risk/benefit analyses when one considers the introduction of POCT. METHODS This study included 1 nonacute and 2 acute hospital sites. The 2 acute site...

Implementation of POCT in the diabetic clinic in a large hospital.

AIM Point-of-care testing (POCT) is gaining renewed interest, especially in resource-limiting primary health care, due to rise in prevalence of communicable and non-communicable diseases hence POCT needscontinuous appraisal. METHODS Random glucose and glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) were measured in 104 diabetic patients using standard laboratory multichannel analyzer 917. The utility of venous ...

Point of Care Testing—Current and Emerging Quality Perspectives

The volume and repertoire of point-of-care testing (POCT) is increasing rapidly, and it is now used in a variety of settings, including patient self-testing. Point-of-care testing offers the significant advantage of rapidly available test results, which have the potential to expedite clinical decision making and improve patient outcomes. Modification of traditional patient care pathways may be ...

Variation in Point-of-Care Testing of HbA1c in Diabetes Care in General Practice

Background: Point-of-care testing (POCT) of HbA1c may result in improved diabetic control, better patient outcomes, and enhanced clinical efficiency with fewer patient visits and subsequent reductions in costs. In 2008, the Danish regulators created a framework agreement regarding a new fee-for-service fee for the remuneration of POCT of HbA1c in general practice. According to secondary researc...

The cost-effectiveness of point of care testing in a general practice setting: results from a randomised controlled trial

BACKGROUND While point of care testing (PoCT) for general practitioners is becoming increasingly popular, few studies have investigated whether it represents value for money. This study aims to assess the relative cost-effectiveness of PoCT in general practice (GP) compared to usual testing practice through a pathology laboratory. METHODS A cost-effectiveness analysis based on a randomized co...
